 TP displays total netball

Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 – Battling for the second runner-up position, Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) both gave their best shot. Initially it appeared that the two teams were on par with each other.

The first quarter ended with the score 10-7, led by TP. However the second quarter saw TP bent on widening the margin between the two.

Sparing no chances, Jodine Yam deftly passed the ball to Ng Yi Yong who passed to Goal Shooter (GS) Charmaine Soh who scored.

The second quarter saw TP dominating the game. Soh's high accuracy resulted in the lead being extended for TP. In one such example, Grala Teo passed the ball to Yam who bypassing the opponent's defenders, further passed it to Soh who scored another goal.

RP, however seemed to be experiencing a breakdown in communication. Centre position Wany fumbled a pass from Wing Attacker Paula. With numerous turnovers due to mispasses from RP, TP managed to gain a significant lead in the second quarter with the score 23-10.

RP strengthened its attack in the third and fourth quarter. Its defence players tried their best to claim ball possession from TP.

The class between the battle of the polytechnics however showed. The third quarter stood at 34-20, led by TP.

The final quarter saw TP clinching the victory with the score 48-28. TP earns third place at the IVP netball games for 2009.

Mei Shi, captain for RP remarks, “In my own personal view, RP did well. What's important is that during this journey we had the mentality of never giving up. We may have lost, but we lost with pride.”

Mary Lee, coach for TP adds, “I'm very proud of our team, they played very well. Their performance on the court has been very consistent. As a coach, I could not ask for a better team, they are always able to receive instruction and do the right thing.”

Jodine Yam, captain for TP says, “I feel that our strength was that we worked as a team. Every player was vital in the team. We were moving in the court as one - total defence, total attack.”
