 Slow Start, Breathtaking Finish

Tampines Sports Hall, Monday, 12 January 2009 – The floorball match between National University of Singapore (NUS) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) may have got off at a slow and shaky start with no goals during the first period but a total of six spectacular goals were scored in the last period.

The game kicked off at a furious pace, both teams were aggressive when it came to taking possession of the ball.

The first period was marked by a rather messy and disorganised play by both teams and there were quite a few instances of players tripping on the floor and dropping their floorball stick like NP's Jovyn Low.

There were many attempts at scoring though. Glass, captain from NUS, got his ball intercepted by Low who aimed and scored, however his attempt was blocked by the NUS goalie. Glass had a few near-goals too during the first period.

The second period saw more control by NUS. The team increased in teamwork and they were able to execute effective passing to each other. It was difficult for NP to catch up with the opponent's new pace.

The result was two goals by NUS. One was scored by Glass, diagonally into the net and the second, by Benjamin Ang. Not easily giving up, NP quickened their offense and scored their first goal soon after, by Low.

The second period ended with a close score of 2-1.

Nothing could have prepared the spectators for the third period. The game progressed from the initial chaotic first period to a lightning-paced, smooth play in the final period.

Both teams displayed the determination to win as NUS scored three more goals by Jasmeet Singh, Ang again and Samuel Nee. NP also did a remarkable job with three goals in this period as well. The scores were scored bt Chong Wei Liang, Low's second goal and Guan Ting. The final score for the whole match stood at 5-4, led by NUS.

Glass, captain for the NUS team says, “It was won with the right spirit. Both teams played hard and NP gave us a great fight. I need to give them credit. It was an important game for both of us which was why both teams showed such great desires to win. It was a impressive match.”
