Bright show by RP despite loss to NUS

Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Friday, 9 January 2009 – Republic Polytechnic put up a brave front against National University of Singapore (NUS) at the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic netball games.

From the start that NUS had complete control of the game. With a smooth network of passing the ball, NUS's Goal Shooter, Yasmin Ho had an accurate aim towards the goal.

NUS picked up the momentum of the game early on while RP scrambled to find their footing.

By the end of the third quarter, NUS leads with the score 39-20. NUS's Sharitah Farhana grabbed the ball from her opponent in mid-throw as she swiftly passed the ball to Goal Attacker Serena Tan who scored a goal.

Another opportunity came to NUS when Tan was again, in possession of the ball. She passed the ball to Yasmin Ho who deftly scored another goal.

At the final quarter, RP piled on the attack.

One noteworthy display of RP's teamwork can be seen when Shahinaz Begum (RP) had the ball and was near the goal. She had to pass the ball to the Goal Shooter, Cheer Chong who was being blocked by NUS players. Shahinaz decided to roll the ball on the court to the GS who quickly grabbed the ball and scored a goal.

RP gave their best at the last quarter, however it was still not enough to catch up on NUS. The score ends, 45-26, led by NUS.

Sng Lee Lee, coach for NUS remarks, “We started out well, but towards the ends, things could have been better. I think our defenders played very well."

"There were some upsets but it was not our concern. They showed that they could handle it. I have to give credit to the shooters at RP, it was not easy to overcome them.”

Tony Tan, coach for RP says, “We were up against a lot of capable players in the opposing team. Many of them are in the national team age group. But I think RP performed well and they never gave up."

"RP, in terms of netball achievements had been barren for five years, but recently we have managed to be in the top three of the POL-ITE games."

"I believe that the future can only get brighter for RP netball team.”
