Tampines Sports Hall, Thursday, 8 January 2009 – One line from the film the Dark Knight comes to mind when watching the floorball match between Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) - when a unstoppable force meets an immovable object. It was a high-octane floorball game which due to the capability of both teams, the first period saw zero goals. NYP was on the aggressive attack since the start, however due to NP's strong defence strategy, NYP was unable to score. One NYP player who swung the ball some distance away from the goal, had the ball just flew into the palm of NP's goalkeeper. Credit has to be given to Darui, goalkeeper for NP, who kept the ball at bay.
The second period saw an even more aggressive attacking strategy by NYP. The team showcased smooth passing between teammates, and they seemed to in control of the game. Some NYP players when near the goal, attempted to shoot, meanwhile the NP players came by at this moment to stop them. However in the midst of the confusion, one NYP player was able to shoot the ball into the goal. Almost immediately after that, NYP managed to score another goal.
As NYP was constantly on the attack, NP seemed inapt to handle their opponent. But thankfully for NP, during an instance when the ball was underneath a pile of bodies near their goal, a NP player managed to score a point for the team. The second period ended with the scores 2-1.
In less than five minutes since the third period began, NYP scored yet another goal. Despite NP's best efforts, they were unable to stop the opponent's forth goal to go inside the net. The score ended at 4-1, led by NYP.
Sara, coach for NP says, “I think the team did well and they put up a good fight. It was obvious that the opponent was stronger but I'm proud of the team for staying strong throughout the game.”
Jovyn Low, player for NP remarks, “We followed the game play the best that we could. But our team does lack experience and we kept making mistakes. We couldn't get the ball up as much as we wanted and the ball was constantly played by our opponent.”
