 Great Expectations

Just 3 more metres to the goalpostTampines Sports Hall, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 – The womens Floorball teams, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) seemed all geared up and ready to go. Mr. Lim, player for the mens floorball team, TP, speculates, “Our team will win, no doubt about it. This is based on the fact that TP has more established players on the team, especially compared to our opponent. One TP player to watch out for is Charlotte Chua. Even though she is small in built, she's fast in attacking.”

TP begins with adamant attacks towards the goal but was stopped by the SP goalkeeper, Natalie Tan. Another attempt hit the goalpost but TP was tenacious and continued to aim towards the goal. TP scored their first goal, with Charlotte Chua providing an assist. With inch-perfect passes between teammates, TP then stepped up their attacking efforts. SP keeper was then presented with an incessant barrage of attacks and she single-handedly kept SP still in the game with her diving saves and alertness.
For the first period, TP was in clear possession of the ball, holding it for the majority of the time. Perhaps the current goal of the tournament, Chua, after stealing the ball from SP, controlled and passed it to her teammate Ka Foong. In one swift motion, Ka Foong swung the ball towards the middle of the net. The build-up was brilliant and the finishing was sweet. At the end of the first period, the score stood at 4-0, led by TP.

SP stepped up on the offense during the second period, but they still were not able to stop another goal in by Chua. SP finally scored a goal by Yur Haryanti from the corner. After a mad scramble near the SP goal, TP responded with another ball in the net. Thus ends the second period.

Jaime Chong, coach for TP says, “The team is playing according to strategy, but the reason why we can obtain a good lead is because our competitors are rather novice. We will not be complacent and will continue to play a good match.”

Good fake!

The final period started and SP tried to amend its team dynamics but to no avail. At this stage, TP is firmly in control and clearly dominating the match. The score finally ends at 9-1, led by TP.

Natalie Tan adds, “It is actually my first time playing in the team. Although it can be rather stressful when the opponent keeps aiming towards the goal, but it was an interesting game.”
