Room for improvement despite trashing opponent

Intercepted ballNgee Ann Polytechnic, Monday, 5 January 2009 – National University of Singapore (NUS) gave no mercy to its competitor, Singapore Polytechnic (SP) during the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) netball match Within the first ten seconds, NUS swiftly shot the ball through the hoop. This quick-thinking method of playing by NUS soon dictated the future flow of the game. With a smooth passing formation, they managed to score another point within the next minute. In the face of a strong rival, SP, was not going to be easily rolled over, and managed to score two points in their favour.

However, it was clear that SP lacked the swiftness and decisiveness in passing the ball, compared to NUS. NUS was in clear domination of the court and they possessed flawless team play. Deciding to step up on their defence, SP displayed their aggressive side to NUS's goal shooter, Yasmin Ho. However, SP were not able to stop NUS from scoring and this rough tactic backfired as it created more opportunities for free throws for the NUS team, as a result of foul play. NUS, despite obtaining a good lead, was not slacking in their attacks.

I want double-team on that player!Spectators could see that NUS was in control of the ball during the majority of the game. At the second half, SP's team dynamics received a noticeable boost, with a smoother flow in their passing. Their attempts were commendable and they put up a good fight, however, NUS was still relentless in their offense, shooting a point within the first minute of the second half. Credit needs to be given to the main scorers for NUS – Yasmin Ho and Rachel Leong – whose hard work resulted in the final score 75-21, led by NUS.

In spite of their impressive performance, NUS still believes there is room for improvement. Amanda Lai, a player from NUS comments, “I believe, by looking at the scoreboard, we have done well in this game. However, we still have areas which we can work on. These include our timing and flow in the game. The pacing of the game can be better.”

Aaron Lim, one of the spectators of the game, remarks, “It was a great game. Good work by both teams!”
