SSC & NLB Tchoukball Challenge 2008

SSC & NLB Tchoukball Challenge 2008

The event generated quite a lot of interest and excitement among the tchoukball playing community. Many teams were quite keen to participate but unfortunately some teams could not sign up due to the clash with their exam dates. In the end, we had a total of 8 teams in the Men category and 4 teams in the women category, which is considered quite a good turnout.

Watched by a good sized crowd on Saturday afternoon, the women category was won by Chuggerz after beating a much improved Too Koo Ballz 20-17 in the final. The score was closer than in the earlier group match between the two teams. The standard of play for the ladies has certainly risen a fair bit compared to a year ago.

Sunday saw a total of 8 teams fighting it out for the honor of bringing home the winner’s trophy and the prize money. The teams played each one in a round robin format and it was clear that there were 3 strong teams in a class of their own – Fiery Warriors, Freakshow and YDC 1 as the day wore on. Spectators were treated to great matches, especially the close matches between these 3 teams. Eventually the top 3 positions finished in the same order as above. What was encouraging was that the level of the play of the remaining 5 teams has also improved considerably, considering that most of the players picked up the sport only this year. Future events should see more exciting matches as more teams emerged, a promising development for the future of Tchoukball.

Here are some feedback from the players :

“I enjoyed the event and learnt a lot from the seniors and other players. The event has a lot of information for the public to know more about Tchoukball too.” Qiuyi, 15 years old, just learnt Tchoukball 1 month ago.

“The event was quite alright, unfortunate about the timing clash with exams and many others

could not take part. Overall the management was good !” Jue Cun, 17 years old, represented Singapore last year.

“Good good good experience!” Teck Seng, 17 years old, new player.

“The event was so spirited and lively! It was soo great to see so many familiar faces in my new experience of being a court official (CO) n to feel the excitement of the sport I have missed so much once again” Liyana, 16 years old, not playing this year to prepare for O level.
