The Adidas Sundown Marathon 2009

 Changi Point, Singapore - Asia’s only mass night race flagged off for the second year running on Saturday, 28th May 2009. The race is divided into 3 main categories; The Ultramarathon- 84km, Marathon- 42.195km and 10km race.
HiVelocity, the organizers of the Adidas Sundown Marathon are delighted with the turnout this year. Despite being dubbed “Singapore’s Toughest Race”, there was a sharp spike in the number of participants for the Ultramarathon race.
From last year’s 322 participants, the number has increased to 600.
General Manager of HiVelocity Pte. Ltd Benjamin Wee said that “Asia has an incredible dynamic running community and we are thrilled to see that the Ultramarathon event is well on its way to becoming one of the region’s premier race”.
 Race against the Night. That is the theme for this year’s race. Although the races were mostly made up of adult runners, there was a great turn-out of youth runners as well!
Everyone present was hyped for the races with the latest hits that blared all around the Adidas Sundown Festival Village. There were also food stalls and free movie screening for the supporters as they wait for their heroes to cross the finishing line.
An estimated 10,000 runners pounded hard on the roads passing landmarks such as Bedok Reservoir, East Coast Park and the Changi Ferry Terminal with the dream-filled city as a spectacular backdrop.
 The idea for this Sundown Marathon came up to serve the lifestyle of a typical Singaporean. Many of the office workers are stuck in the office till late and sports can only take place after that.
Keeping this in mind, that is how this race came about!
