Hiya all,

Just thought I put out a word for the very few of us in SG that actually practice n compete in boxing (Not the Muay Thai kind btw). Couple of us occassionally compete against one another from different secondary schools (CHIJ Toa Payoh, St Margarets and Raffles JC). Its not an official CCA for us but we take it as a leisure sport.

Wow, girls in boxing ...not used to it . And this is the 1st time i heard of it, as in treating it as a leisure sport. Are there any of such competitions around for yall to gain experiences?

Nope we dont have any official competitions, would be keen on promoting it as a secondary school CCA and thus having official inter school boxing championships though.

Wow, making it a CCA. Won't it get bloody and all? Coz to me boxing is all about hitting people, then you'll see people get bruises and blood everywhere. EWWW

lol messy? alittle haha what with hitting each other alittle hard n getting carried away, we do end up with drool or saliva spit during the fights but definately not to the extent of bleeding. Wonder what the public wld make of it if such inter sch competitions be held. It already is in a way inter sch for us as we box in our respective sec sch pe attires lol

As an external CCA for some schools yea, I dont tink it'll get to the point of a huge official CCA but wld certainly like to see some competitions going on in schools. I know for a fact quite a number of students r quite positive to this, they feel its a sport that really brings out competitive school spirit in them even if they're merely watching. They said this after we held our first unofficial fight of CHIJ Toa Payoh VS Raffles Junior College not too long ago.

WOW . It's very surprising, that people say it brings out the competitive spirit. I don't think that schools will allow such CCAs as the risk of injury and going into a hospital is so much higher than any other CCA! Anyway, that's my POV, do correct me if i'm wrong

I agree it does get rough but then again so is rugby and judo. But schools would probably not agree with it as a CCA because of the competitive nature of the sport and how losing a fight can stir emotions in the students.

For the record though, CHIJ Toa Payoh defeated Raffles Junior College after I succeeded in knocking down the RJC gal 3 times in round 5. To the RJC gal's credit she did the same to me once in round 4, all in all a good fight put up by RJC. =)

Gosh!  i can't imagine myself punching an opponent down. just couldn't bring myself to hit someone. OUCH! so painful!!

I do agree that sports like rugby and judo are also dangerous, but the aim of rugby is to score a point by bringing the rugby ball to that scoring line and the injury element is more indirectly compared to boxing where you win by hitting your opponent. For judo, i thot they don't hit people, they just flip people

Anyway, congrats for your win  When's the next match? And what's your current CCA?

Crystal,

I must admit...just reading the thread here...am utterly amazed!  Honestly did not realise this was such a hit with gals (pun unintended!). This is a story on its own.

To your knowledge, is this a growing thing?

To my knowledge, its not really taking off on the whole but there are a couple of us that get into it. Guess thats y it cant really be taken seriously as a CCA or at the very most an external CCA. In the mean time looking to hook up a match between IJTP and St Nicks sometime soon, guess its gonna be a battle of the IJ gals haha.

Hi Crystal

Was reading this thread and found it very interesting. Hoping to talk to you about it. Is it possible for you to email me at linxinyi@sph.com.sg? Thanks! Hope to hear from you.

Hmmm...I can just see it...the hype about the competition (is there one?) between the IJ girls, being sorted out in a boxing match.  This could be the next reality show to hit the screens!

Some time back there was a bit of a hype about the daughters of Joe Frazier and Muhammed Ali, coming back to fight.  The history between the fathers was the main attraction...but can you imagine if there has been some rivalry between IJTP and St Nick's?

Who needs it to be a CCA?  There can be a huge following just from this...something to think about?

Well thats the first of a boxing match between CHIJ Toa Payoh and CHIJ St Nicholas. All in all a good fierce fight but guess the CHIJ St Nicholas gal bested me with knock out count out in the second last round... real disappointed as I had the fight in the bag scoring more hits than her even came close to knocking her out when she was stuck along the ropes but guess I underestimated the stamina n endruance of the St Nicks gal. Good 3 punch combination you have there with that roundhouse shot you threw taking me down for the count. Good fight looking forward to our rematch :)

Might be something planned during our holidays I guess, had the rematch of CHIJ Toa Payoh VS Chij St Nicks just earlier this month. Its a win for me under IJTP this time though what with a 3time knock down scored against the St Nicks gal in the closing rounds.... hitting harder and working on my stamina lately gave me a slight edge in that fight though I took quite  a fair share of a trashing myself what with both of us coming away from the fight with swollen lips n cheeks from all those hard hooks and uppercuts thrown lol.

Sure but we aren't sure as to when and where the next fights will be. I'm currently looking at a possible CHIJ TP VS SCGS & St Margs fight in the holidays. Don't know if anyone would also pay attention to a fight between ACJC VS RJC boys. Just a thought but whats everyones opinion on that upcoming fight?
